Can't believe you've not included Brad Parkinson, Paringina and McClouds shoes! The Parkinson family have only been making shoes in for 75 years, and in Brunswick for nearly 30. It doesn't take much encouragement to have Brad give an enthusiastic tour of his factory.

Back in the late 1950s and 1960s, there was a row of very small shops on the south side of Moreland Road, leading up to Cameron Street from Sydney Road intersection. There was a cobbler there. He and his wife would sit at the shop front, which was opened to passersby. The cobbler had dark skin tone. His wife was often with him. The tools of his trade were visible as you passed by. As a kid, I'd walk by this and the other little shops on my way home from Moreland Primary school. I'll never forget his wonderful warm smile. He seemed small in stature, though this could be because he was seated.

Today, this row of shops no longer exists and has been replaced by the Brunswick Tower motel and the KAMI Japanese restaurant.

I wish I knew more about this cobbler, his back story and what became of his wife and him.
